Shoe widths explained simply
Similar to shoe sizes, there is also a specific system for shoe widths. To differentiate them from shoe sizes, widths are designated not by numbers, but by letters. Depending on the foot shape, a narrow, normal, or wide-cut shoe can be chosen.
What shoe widths are available at Sioux?
Common shoe widths range from narrow to very wide designs. At Sioux, we focus on the widths that are particularly relevant for our men's and women's shoes.
Sioux Width System for Women
| Shoe Width | Description | Addition |
| F | Slim | |
| G | Standard Width | |
| H | Extra Wide | XL |
Sioux Width System for Men
| Shoe Width | Description | Addition |
| G | Standard Width | |
| H | Extra Wide | XL |
| J | Super Wide | XXL |
| K | Extra Super Wide | XXXL |
Width G is the standard width at Sioux. Larger widths are often referred to as multi-widths or extra widths. In retail, terms like comfort width or roomy width are also used for these.
Important: The width systems for men and women differ. Therefore, a men's shoe in width G is not simply equivalent to a women's shoe in width G.

How do I recognize the shoe width at Sioux?
The width of a Sioux shoe is indicated in several places. You can find it inside the shoe, on the shoe box, and in the product information for the respective model in the Sioux online shop.
For larger widths, we supplement the letters with an easily understandable designation. For example, H stands for Extra Wide or XL, for men's shoes, J follows as Super Wide or XXL, and K as Extra-Super Wide or XXXL.
This makes it quick to see how a model is classified within the Sioux width system.
Why can shoe widths change throughout life?
Feet do not always stay the same throughout life. Their shape and thus the space required in the shoe can change. A width that has fit well for many years can therefore eventually become too tight.
This does not automatically mean that a larger shoe size is necessary. Often, a different width can be the more suitable solution.
If you want to know what width currently suits your foot, you can find the measurement instructions under [How to determine shoe width correctly].
What can be done if feet get wider?
The fact that foot shape changes with increasing age cannot be fundamentally prevented. However, regular exercise and active foot muscles can help support the natural function of the feet.
When choosing shoes, it is crucial not to force the foot into a too-narrow fit. At the same time, a shoe should not be chosen unnecessarily wide. The appropriate width should always be based on the current foot shape.
Those who need more room can specifically opt for a wider version. However, what size and width go together always depends on the individual foot and shoe model.
